What sets Best in Behavior apart from the many other dog training schools out there is the education, experience and skill set of owner Nancy Schumacher.

Education

Nancy received her professional dog training certification through an intensive six-week on-campus program at CATCH Canine Trainer’s Academy held at St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center in Madison, NJ. CATCH is a state licensed and approved program that combines rigorous hands-on training with mentoring from recognized experts knowledgeable in the most current techniques for training dogs. She also holds an Associates Degree in Applied Animal Science from the University of New Hampshire and Bachelors Degree in Education from S.U.N.Y Cortland.

NANCY’S OTHER CREDENTIALS INCLUDE:

  • Certified Dogtec Dog Walker
  • Staff Trainer at a prominent NJ Dog Board and Train Facility
  • Member - Association of Professional Dog Trainers

Experience

Nancy is a lifelong animal lover who has raised and trained a variety of breeds – including horses, dogs and cats. Her experience training dogs includes her private practice, on-staff trainer at a large NJ Dog board and train facility, volunteer work at the ASPCA Behavioral Rehabilitation Center and St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center. Her summers in high school and college were spent as a horse trainer at Trumbull Mountain Stables in Shaftsbury, VT. and she has worked as ‘hot walker’ at Belmont Racetrack. Nancy’s began honing her skills at a very young age on a host of family cats and dogs including, Samantha, Rodney, Ollie, Charlotte and Jamie.

Skill Set

Nancy combines an instinctive understanding of what motivates animals to behave the way they do with patience and a firm results-oriented manner that dogs and owners alike respond to. Dog training is not a hobby for Nancy - it is the culmination of a lifelong passion. She will approach her work training your dog with the same spirit that guided her years of competitive show horse jumping.
